2018 Lawn Care | Early Spring
The forsythia is in bloom here in New Jersey! That means Spring has officially sprung and it's time to apply an Early Spring dose of fertilizer and pre-emergent herbicide on my lawn.
You may remember my lawn catastrophe from 2016. If not, check out my Extreme Lawn Repair video.
After paying a professional lawn service to repair my lawn in Fall 2016, I continued their services in 2017 with an annual lawn care program costing me over $1,100. After spending all that money, the lawn looked… okay. Just okay. No better than I had been doing for the past 30 years (aside from Summer 2016).
One downside to outsourcing my turf management was that I felt out of touch with my lawn. It was just a lawn; it wasn't MY lawn. I wanted MY LAWN BACK.
So I canceled my turf maintenance program and went back to DIY in 2018 using the help of Allyn Hane – The Lawn Care Nut – and his Cool Season Hybrid Organic program.
In this video, I use a new new Earthway spreader to apply starter fertilizer, Milorganite organic fertilizer, and pre-emergent weed control. I also explain the mineral calculations for this early Spring application.
If you are looking for alternatives to Milorganite, check out this list of organic fertilizer sources.
EARTHWAY 2050P SPREADER
I bought this spreader because it has a big hopper, pneumatic tires, and an edge control feature that prevents wasted material when making a trim pass around the lawn.
